Viking Volleyball Girls Varsity

Coach Mitchell starts his first year in charge of his alma mater.  This is his third stint as a high school varsity coach, but first with the Vikings.  It is a return to Vikings varsity that has been in the making since I first assisted John D'anna in 1987.  I had to tenure at varsity volleyball with Chico High.  The first lead to my first teaching job in Sonoma and opportunity to work with Empire Volleyball Club.  My second CHS experience led to an opportunity to be the first assistant at Chico State under Coach Cody Hein and two years of working with a top 20 NCAA division II program that culminated in consecutive NCAA tournament berths.  The past three years I have been rebuilding our Boy's Volleyball program and hope to combine the two programs resources to the benefit of all our student athletes.

In 2008 I joined our Viking Volleyball program under Coach Dave Davis as his junior varsity coach for the past three season.  In doing so, I became a part of the Viking Volleyball coaching tradition that has seen tradmenous success from Randy Gilzean 6 straight EAL championships to Tom Melton's 4 straight and only CIF Northern California Championship appearance, to Dave Davis and his 7 out of 8 NSCIF championship.  We also have had many great players to grace the Viking Blue and White from NCAA division II Western regional players of the year Kristen White at UC Davis (PVHS 1990) & Lisa North at CSU Bakerfield (PVHS 1998).  Jenny Fergusen (PVHS 2002) Sacramento State and NCAA All American Kylie Ahterstone at Cal Ploy (PVHS 2004) to 2010 PVHS Kylie Mansfield University of New Mexico.

I'm excited to direct our student athletes in volleyball PV where I gradulated in 1986.  I hope to bring a personal passion for our sport that will translate into an entertaining style of tempo volleyball.  We will be volleyball program that relies on structured practices to teach a systematic approach to our play.  We will have a focus on first contact, and rely on our Slide X in system offense to put us in opportunities for success.  We will be program based on competitive training and will seek to perform at the highest level we can achieve each year individually and as a team.
